Listed Building & Conservation

The wide range of projects on which TBP have been involved over the years include a broad experience of work to historical and Listed Buildings, and properties that fall within Heritage or designated Conservation Area’s.

Historical buildings and their environment invariably have their own individual character which has been considered of sufficient architectural merit to warrant protection as a Listed Building.  Particular care and sympathy is required to ensure that any works undertaken do not detract from the quality and character of the building.

Such properties come under the scrutiny of the local planning authority’s Listed Building Officer and in particularly sensitive cases, also English Heritage.  Dependent on the grade of the listing and the scope of works, Listed Building Approval is required. TBP always seek to consult and work in close liaison with the local authority planners and English Heritage to achieve the most appropriate solutions for our Client, the building and the satisfaction of the local authority.

PROJECTS

Examples of works to listed buildings include major demolitions, extensions and refurbishment to high profile town centre premises in Cambridge, Bury St. Edmunds, Chippenham and High Wycombe.  This has also included liaison with County and national archaeologists where sites have exposed items deemed of historical importance.

TBP have also assessed and advised on remedial and maintenance proposals for what is claimed to be the ‘oldest hotel in the country’

Over the last 20 years, in excess of 80 projects have involved works to Listed Buildings and a further 20 within Conservation Areas.

RECENT PROJECTS

Recent projects include the refurbishment of a 6 storey Grade I Listed Building in Queen Anne’s Gate, London and alterations and refurbishment of Grade II listed Bank and office premises in Islington and Colchester.
